Bio

Ishan Perera, BS (Biology with Minors in Chemistry & Computer Science), is a doctoral candidate for Osteopathic Medicine at the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM) Virginia Campus. Ishan’s professional career revolves around the pursuit of knowledge – the goal of knowing just a bit about everything. To this goal, he has set his mind on a career in Neurosurgery – one that melds the practices of Neurological Surgery with the mindset of an Osteopathic Physician. He has co-founded the Health Observations, Lexicography, & Outcomes Laboratory (HOLO Labs), a student-run research lab that works on the behalf of the VCOM Simulation and Technology Center under the guidance of Dr. Fred Rawlins, II, to provide Osteopathic Students with more research opportunities. Ishan has also worked in the political advocacy space, in his role as the VCOM-VA Virginia Osteopathic Medical Association (VOMA) and Medical Society of Virginia (MSV) Chair, he worked to continue advocacy efforts of the past, while working closely with AACOM and VOMA to improve student knowledge and muster support regarding the FAIR Act.
